In “The Loss of Teeth in Dreams: An Empirical Investigation” (in Psychological Reports), the analyst compares the personality profile of people who have recurring dreams about losing teeth with some who have recurring dreams about flying. The article states that people who are dreaming often of losing teeth “are significantly more anxious and depressed, had lower ego strength, were less satisfied with their lives (…).”

In the field of contemporary dream analysis, the imagery of losing teeth can be understood symbolically as the process of starting something new like a project, a relationship or changing habits both for men and women.

If you are dreaming of losing a lot of teeth or feel horrified in your dream, it’s important to remember that the intensity of this symbolic imagery reflects the intensity of the anxiety or loss you may be experiencing in your waking life.

I have recurring dreams about losing a tooth. The tooth changes from time to time. Most of my dreams where I am losing a tooth, its mainly half of it. And it’s breaking, I will be constantly pulling out little bits if my tooth but then when I run my tongue over the gap, my tooth is fully intacked. The dream that has stood out the most to me about losing a tooth, happened not to long ago and I was losing my tooth next to my cainie tooth on the bottom left. Im pulling it out and when I go to look at it, there are roots attached to it like a small tree but its red instead of brown. And I do this several times removing this one tooth and the red roots get bigger and bigger.

I have these dreams a lot actually. Just last night I had the worse one yet. In my dream I was sitting and getting my hair done & my teeth started to fall off so I tried to play it cool and put them in my pocket… then my hair stylist would try to talk and I just remained quiet because I didn’t want anyone to know all my teeth were gone. Then the dream escalated to me getting very sick and couldn’t do anything then waking up in a hospital having this apparent humidity disease (I live in Wi so it would make sense)… with that being said I always wake up and freak out and have to touch my teeth and makes sure all is well.

I don’t remember all of it. I do remember my right big front tooth being loose for awhile (not sure how long). I’m thinking that I may have nudged it, but not sure, but it comes out. When I look at it it looks like one of the teeth in back. I have knowledge of a tooth on my bottom left (recently?) coming out. I don’t know if was replaced or not. I start sobbing / balling at the loss. My family is in another room waiting for me when I realize that they are going to start hearing me and think that someone will come check on me.

I had a dream the exact same as this. But it was my front bottom left tooth!

Ive been dreaming of loosing teeth on a regular basis for the pass several months, just last night i dreamed that i have lost 4 teeth. 2 of those 4 teeth i pulled myself and felt the slight pain and pressure as i wiggled it out.  The same type of pain and pressure when i was under nioxide ans novacain when i had 2 teeth pulled.  I do have anxiety, severe anxiety, and depressed. For about 10 years now, I’m 33 this july and have been trying to get out and overcome my depreesion and anxiety.  I joined the YMCA and lost 60 pounds but recently gained 20 back as i have back slide.  So started back to the Y and even went to the movies all by myself, with the help of my medications.  So according to the article, since i have been depressed and anxiety disorder for a long while that the dreams of loosing teeth is a good thing since im trying to change to something better, a life changing event.  But still loosing teeth?

My teeth are not perfectly fit as it was before it falls out. My father was there beside me as I am brushing my teeth because it is quite dirty and yellowish. Then, I saw my boyfriend, he smiled at me, but, his two upper front teeth is decayed and full of cavities. Please help me, I want to know what this dream is telling me about.

I’ve had numerous dreams about me losing my teeth. One that stood out the most is when I walked into a strange bathroom with a oldly green diming light and I glance into the mirror and notice blood surrounding my mouth. Once I looked down to the sink, there is a large amount of blood and several of my own teeth. A few minutes later, I realize all my teeth are either loose or falling out in the sink. Once I woke up, I sit up quickly and use my own finger to check if I still have my teeth. My heart beats uncontrollably because this dream felt so real. The following two weeks I think about this horrifying dream. Couple days later, the person that meant the most to me passes away, my grand-mother.
